ESG Manager, ACP at Africa Finance Corporation (AFC)

Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) is a multilateral financial institution, created by African sovereign states to provide pragmatic solutions to Africa’s infrastructure deficit and challenging operating environment.
AFC Capital Partners (ACP) seeks a thought leader in ESG with proven expertise to integrte ESG considerations into our infrastructure investment projects. The role involves managing climate risk and resilience and ensuring the highest sustainability standards across our portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental, social, and climate risk management, a deep understanding of governance issues, and a commitment to driving positive change in African infrastructure investment.

We are hiring for:

Environmental, Social, & Governance (ESG) Manager.
Location: Ikoyi, Lagos.
Contract Type: Full-Time.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the integration of ESG factors into infrastructure investment decision-making processes.
  • Provide environmental & social risk management support to ACP-managed assets.
  • Develop and implement climate risk screening tools, conduct comprehensive climate risk assessments, and create strategies to enhance climate resilience within infrastructure projects.
  • Integrate climate risk considerations into the investment process for infrastructure projects at all stages.
  • Prepare and present ESG reports, including impact assessments, to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to corporate knowledge by participating in and leading technical and policy-level discussions on E&S risks and other sustainability issues and trends with internal and external stakeholders.

 

Education

  • A strong academic record with a Master’s degree in Environmental Science or Management, Engineering, Risk Management, Climate Sciences, or related disciplines from a leading university.
  • Professional qualifications/certifications in Project Management, ESG, or Climate Resilience are a plus.

 

Experience

  • 8-12 years of relevant experience in ESG and climate risks in emerging markets and developing economies, preferably with a DFI, MDB, or infrastructure private equity.
  • Proven track record in integrating ESG factors into infrastructure investment processes and managing environmental and social risks.
  • Experience in conducting climate risk assessments and scenario analysis for infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of Concession agreements, PPA, EPC O&M contracts, and experience in integrating ESG and Climate Resilience Requirements.

Nice To Have

  • Strong communication and writing skills (fluency in English and French is preferable) are highly desirable.
