Job Summary
- The Chief Financial Officer, who will be an Executive Director, will be responsible for the financial and strategic direction of the organization.
- The role holder will be responsible for providing oversight and driving the financial planning, performance, and reporting functions to support the company’s growth and stability.
- This role is also critical in strategy formulation and monitoring, optimizing profitability, managing risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance, while providing actionable insights to stakeholders, and will act as a Centre of Excellence in key corporate areas of finance, strategy, investment, decision support, risk, and value management, amongst others.
- He/she will also be responsible for ensuring a robust risk and compliance culture is engrained within the group.
The Role (Strategic Functions)
- Provide advisory and expert support to the board and executive management on all financial and strategic issues.
- Develop and execute financial strategies, oversee budgetary planning, and implement capital financing options to support the group’s strategy plan.
- Cascade financial strategies into effective business plan for its subsidiaries and ensure maximum alignment between organizational objectives and subsidiaries’
- activities.
- Develop financial business cases for proposed investments and ensure the efficiency, profitability, and safety of the various investment portfolios of the group.
- Monitor, review, and direct the implementation of the strategic business plans against set objectives.
- Establish annual strategic objectives, goals, action plans, and milestones and assume accountability for the successful implementation of the same.
- Drive the growth (organic and inorganic) plans of the group.
- Develop and drive implementation of FMDO’s sustainability strategy.
- Oversee the design and implementation of FMDQ’s Enterprise Risk Management
- (ERM) Framework.
- Provide oversight of all risk management activities within the group and ensure that the full spectrum of risks (in line with the group’s risk taxonomy) are identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
- Stay abreast of regulatory activities, policies, and laws for timely identification of new and/or modified compliance regulations applicable to the group.
- Implement the Group’s plan for its business premises and business continuity site(s)
- Facilitate the provision of efficient and effective administrative services across the group.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key external business advisors and relevant bodies e.g., regulatory organizations, auditors, solicitors, and banks to facilitate effective business operations.
About You
- As an ideal candidate, you will need to be a strategic thinker with a high level of commercial acumen, entrepreneurial skills, and the ability to interpret figures and provide meaningful and actionable insights.
- A seasoned and innovative finance professional with a proven track record in financial and risk management, project management, regulatory compliance, profitability optimization, leadership, planning, and organization.
- To be successful in this role, you must have a high level of initiative, strong attention to detail, excellent negotiation and influencing skills, and a good understanding of trends, challenges, opportunities, regulations, and legislation relating to a capital market holding company and the financial markets in general.
Key Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in finance/accounting, economics, or any other related field from a reputable university.
- Relevant finance professional certification, e.g., ACA, is required.
- MBA or Master’s Degree and other professional qualifications would be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 20+ years of cognate experience, with at least 8 years in an executive management/C-level position in a similar environment, interfacing with the Board of Directors, Executive Management team, and financial partners, among others.
- Excellent financial management, financial analysis, and financial modelling skills.
- Good knowledge in accounting and financial reporting, as well as applicable regulations and reporting standards, e.g., International Financial Reporting Standards.
- Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
- In-depth knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management practices.
- Strategic thinker with a high level of commercial acumen.
- Good knowledge of the capital and financial markets.
- Strong understanding of local tax laws and regulatory frameworks.
- High sense of responsibility, accountability, integrity, and ethical standards.
